The mutual recognition between the Zionist entity and the “Somaliland” region is merely the culmination of stages of secret communication. Through this recognition, the entity aims to solidify the division of Somalia and violate its sovereignty. More importantly, it seeks to infiltrate the strategically important Horn of Africa region, exploiting its strategic significance to destabilize the region’s security and stability, undermine its capabilities, and ultimately use it to establish military bases, alongside controlling key ports, as part of the Greater Middle East Project aimed at containing the sources of power in Arab and African countries.
This announcement and recognition were met with widespread Arab, Islamic, and regional rejection, condemnation, and denunciation.
Arab and Islamic circles, in a series of angry reactions, considered this a blatant violation of international law and a threat to the stability of the Horn of Africa.
The Resistance Axis recognized the gravity of this development and warned of its repercussions.
Yemen, Iran, and Palestinian factions condemned the exchange of recognition, considering it an attempt within a scheme to partition this Islamic country and violate its sovereignty, they asserted that it aligns with the Israeli enemy’s policy of destabilizing the region and escalating insecurity in the Red Sea and Horn of Africa regions.
They emphasized that Arab regimes merely issuing statements constitutes an abdication of responsibility and complicity in facilitating Zionist projects.
They also called for solidarity and unity to thwart all attempts to transform Somali territory into Zionist-American military bases aimed at encircling Arab and African countries.
They warned that this dubious recognition harbors malicious objectives, including exploiting the region to implement plans of forced displacement and expulsion against the Palestinian people.
It called for strengthening the isolation of the Zionist entity, which targets the entire Arab nation and region, demanding the severing of all forms of Arab and Islamic relations with the criminal Zionist entity.
It also called on all Arab and African peoples to rise up and resolutely confront all Zionist-American conspiracies and ambitions aimed at seizing the resources of the people and controlling their lands, especially strategic locations, and to work collectively to confront the Zionist and American presence on any Arab or African land.
“The Greater Middle East”
In Yemen, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Abdul Wahid Abu Ras, affirmed that what is happening in Somalia is part of the Zionist plan called “The Greater Middle East.”
In a statement to the Yemeni News Agency (SABA), Abu Ras explained that Arab regimes merely issuing statements constitutes an abdication of responsibility and complicity in facilitating Zionist projects. He warned of the vulnerabilities exploited by the Israeli enemy in the region, resulting from the subservient policies of Arab regimes towards Israel and the United States, he asserted that the United States is a partner in the conspiracy, and the current statements are nothing more than a charade with the Israeli enemy.
He cautioned that the Arab region is vulnerable to numerous interventions and fragmentation projects due to the shameful complicity of many Arab regimes, who bear full responsibility for this situation.
Addressing the ruling authority in Hargeisa, Abu Ras stated, “Embracing Zionism is not a solution to your internal problems; rather, it is a strategic and historical error that will bring about disasters and problems that will only end with the destruction of all your aspirations and dreams.”
A Malicious Plot
In Iran, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei strongly condemned the Zionist entity’s blatant violation of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity through its attempts to advance a plan to partition this Islamic country.
He stated that “the Zionist entity’s blatant violation of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity through its attempts to advance a plan to partition this Islamic country is a clear breach of the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and international law.”
He further noted that “this malicious move by the Zionist entity is consistent with its policy of destabilizing the countries of the region and escalating insecurity in the Red Sea and Horn of Africa regions,” calling for “decisive action by the international community to neutralize this expansionist and threatening act by the Zionist entity.”
A Dangerous Precedent
In Palestine, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) rejected and strongly condemned the announcement by the separatist administration in the “Somaliland” region regarding the exchange of recognition with the criminal Zionist entity. Hamas considered it “a dangerous precedent and an unacceptable attempt to gain false legitimacy from a fascist entity occupying the land of Palestine and the first Qibla of Muslims, an entity implicated in war crimes and genocide, and facing escalating international isolation.”
In a press statement, the movement affirmed its “complete rejection of the enemy’s plans to forcibly displace our people, including the use of ‘Somaliland’ as a destination for the people of Gaza.”
Hamas stated that “the resort of the war criminal Netanyahu’s government to recognizing a separatist administration in Somalia reflects the depth of the international isolation under which the Zionist entity is suffering as a result of the genocidal crimes it has committed against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, this necessitates strengthening this isolation both at the popular and official levels, and continuing international efforts to besiege it and hold its leaders accountable for their crimes against humanity.”
It praised “the positions of the Arab and Islamic countries that condemned this dangerous behavior that violates international law, as it undermines the unity and sovereignty of Somalia,” while warning against “the malicious Zionist policies aimed at fragmenting Arab countries, destabilizing them, and interfering in their internal affairs, in service of the Zionist settlement project.”
Military Bases
The Palestinian Resistance Committees condemned the “aggressive Zionist declaration recognizing the so-called ‘Republic of Somaliland’ as an independent state,” considering it “a threat and aggression against the Arab nation and an attempt to incite discord and conflict in the Arab and African regions.”
In a press statement, they said, “The Zionist recognition of the so-called Republic of Somaliland as an independent state necessitates a unified Arab and African stance to confront the Zionist decision, which aims to fragment the peoples of the nation and undermine the stability and territorial integrity of its lands, serving its expansionist and colonial ambitions and plans.”
They called for “solidarity and unity to thwart all attempts to transform Somali territory into Zionist-American military bases aimed at besieging Arab and African countries.”
Stirring Up Divisions
In the same vein, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) strongly condemned the Zionist entity’s recognition of the so-called “Somaliland” separatist entity, considering this recognition “a blatant new aggression targeting the unity of Arab and African states and undermining their national stability, and aimed at inciting conflicts and divisions in the vital Horn of Africa region.”
It warned that “this dubious recognition harbors malicious objectives, including exploiting this territory to implement plans of ‘forced displacement’ and ‘uprooting’ against the Palestinian people.”
It affirmed its support for the Somali people, emphasizing the unity, territorial integrity, and absolute sovereignty of Somalia, and that any attempt to impose parallel entities serves only the Zionist colonial project in the region.
It praised the unified Arab and African position rejecting this step, calling on “Arab and Islamic countries and the African Union to escalate the confrontation against Zionist infiltration in Arab countries and the African continent, and to expand the scope of boycott agreements and combat normalization in all its forms, in order to cut off this entity that feeds on chaos, destruction and division, stressing that the unity of Somalia is an integral part of Arab and African national security.”
A Blatant Attempt
The Palestinian Mujahideen Movement condemned the separatist administration in Somaliland’s exchange of recognition with the Zionist entity, calling it “an immoral step to gain legitimacy from a criminal entity involved in a genocidal war against the Palestinian people, which has been occupying Palestinian land and oppressing its people for decades.”
In a statement, the movement said, “This step reveals the extent of the international isolation the criminal Zionist entity is experiencing due to its brutal crimes against our people, especially in the Gaza Strip. The Somaliland administration’s recognition is a blatant attempt to break this isolation.”
The movement affirmed that “the Zionist entity is the primary threat to Arab security and stability, and to the unity and territorial integrity of Arab lands, through its malicious policies that support the fragmentation and division of Arab states and undermine their stability.”
And so…
Strategically, what happened cannot be separated, under any circumstances, from the context of competition and the race to control ports and strategic locations in the region,
this competition aims to consolidate power and influence over vital waterways, most notably the Red Sea.
Somaliland is located in northern Somalia, in the Horn of Africa, on the coast of the Gulf of Aden.
Somaliland declared its independence from Somalia in 1991, but has not received international recognition.
The Khatumo region declared its independence from Somaliland after a war that lasted approximately six months, the people of Khatumo fought against the armed forces of the self-declared republic, and the war ended with the defeat of Somaliland forces and their withdrawal from Las Anod on August 25, 2023.
