Israel will strike Iraq if militias seek to support Hezbollah, US envoy warns Baghdad – report

The warning came a month after sources in the Northern Command told Walla that Israel was seeing an increased threat from the country.

US Envoy Tom Barrack warned Baghdad not to involve itself in Israel’s war against Hezbollah, telling officials the country may face Israeli strikes if they or Iran-backed militias there intervened, the Saudi state-run al Hadath news outlet reported on Monday.

Barrack reportedly told Iraqi officials that Israeli operations in Lebanon would continue until Hezbollah was disarmed.

The warning came a month after sources in the Northern Command told Walla that Israel was seeing an increased threat from the country.

Israel faces new risks from Iran-backed miltias in Iraq
The Iranians have been investing significant resources in pro-Iranian militias and terrorist infrastructure in Iraq, so that, when instructed, terrorists would be able to attack Israel from the air and by land, the sources claimed.

The main method of attack would likely involve launching missiles and drones from Iraqi territory, following a pattern similar to the one used during the Israel-Hamas war against Israel’s home front.
Iraq’s most prominent militia, Kataib Hezbollah, recently returned Elizabeth Tsurkov, an Israeli citizen it was holding hostage.

One of the militias that has become a source of concern is Harakat al-Nujaba, Walla reported. This militia maintains close ties with Hezbollah in Lebanon and has previously claimed responsibility for several missile launches.
