Il y a un an, j’écrivais à mes amis un billet pour leur expliquer l’état de la dette US.

En une année, la situation de cette dette US s’est considérablement détériorée avec la guerre en Ukraine et le rythme de cette détérioration s’est même accéléré.

Souvent surpris des propos très approximatifs de mes interlocuteurs lorsqu’on évoque la dette états-unienne et les principaux créanciers des USA, je vais donc tenter de refaire un point actualisé sur la question dans les lignes qui suivent.

Beaucoup de gens semblent heureux de vivre selon la logique infaillible qui veut que si une chose mauvaise prédite ne s’est pas encore produite, cela signifie automatiquement que ceux qui la prédisaient avaient tort et que cette chose mauvaise ne se produira jamais. Il est absolument inutile d’essayer de leur expliquer qu’il est beaucoup plus facile de prédire avec précision QUE quelque chose se produira que de prédire avec précision QUAND cela se produira. Il semble y avoir une prédisposition génétique commune à tous les humains à regrouper tous les développements indésirables et peut-être inévitables, mais pas encore naissants, dans une seule et même catégorie de «choses dont il ne faut pas s’inquiéter pour l’instant». Il s’agit d’une vaste catégorie qui comprend le début de la prochaine ère glaciaire d’ici un millénaire, la pénurie de pétrole dans le monde (le monde n’en manquera pas, mais vous pourriez en manquer) et, bien sûr, le château de cartes financier des États-Unis qui finit par faire cette chose que les châteaux de cartes font tous si vous continuez à y ajouter des cartes, sauf que (et c’est ce qui rend les châteaux de cartes si excitants) vous ne savez jamais quelle carte sera celle de trop.
