Mirsad Omerovic, also known as Abu Tejma is a former leader of a Bosnian terrorist cell in Vienna, Austria.
He is currently imprisoned for 20 years on charges related to radicalising and recruiting individuals to join the Islamic State.
In November 2014, he was arrested as part of a police operation against his Vienna-based terrorist cell.
Two years later in July 2016, he was found guilty by an Austrian court of recruiting more than 160 militants for Islamic State, including the two Austrian Islamic State poster girls, who flew to lands controlled by the terrorist organisation in Iraq and Syria to be wedded to the group’s militants.
Omerovic also called for attacks across central Europe and played a key role in disseminating ideas of violent Jihadist ideologies in German-speaking Europe.
The Bosnian cell that Omerovic led was considered as one of the most important logistical and financial hubs for Islamic State recruitment and funding efforts in central Europe.
Despite being currently imprisoned, Omerovic likey remains a threat behind bars due to his contacts in the outside world, and his potential ability to continue spreading extremist Salafist material, recruitment and even fundraising.
