On March 24, 2025, the recently-established Iran-backed Iraqi militia called the Awliya Al-Haqq [Supporters of Truth] Brigades posted two messages on Telegram in which it threatened to attack the U.S. Embassy in Iraq and Israeli and American interests in the country and in the region, in the event of an American or Israeli attack on “the mujahideen” in Iraq, or if the Israeli attacks on Gaza continue. The militia stated that as far as it is concerned, “the American occupier” in Iraq constitutes a target, and it urged the public and the Iraqi security forces to distance themselves from it, for their own safety.
The following is a review of the statements issued by the Awliya Al-Haqq Brigades on March 24, 2025:
On March 24, 2025, the Awliya Al-Haqq Brigades posted a statement on its Telegram channel in which it wrote that it is following “with great fury” the “aggression and barbaric massacres” perpetrated by Israel in the Gaza Strip “with the unlimited support of the criminal American machine,” alongside the “assistance of the Great Satan the U.S., and its allies, to the gangs of [Syrian President] Al-Joulani” to eliminate the members of the Alawite sect in Syria, and alongside “the Zionist-American aggression against Yemen.” The militia further stated, “The Zionist-American occupier is plotting to strike our people in Iraq. We warn the tyrannical occupier that if it makes any stupid move and attacks the mujahideen, we will respond harshly against all its interests, its bases, and its embassy [in Iraq]. Escalation will be met with escalation. Furthermore, if the Israeli enemy continues its criminal aggression against Gaza, the Zionist-American occupier will be a target of ours in Iraq and in the region, and we will enter direct confrontation with it, with no letup and no compromises.”
Later on the same day, the militia posted another statement in which it addressed the Iraqi people and declared: “The Great Satan – that is on your land, spills the blood of innocent people, murders children, imprisons women, banishes the defenseless, demolishes the Islamic peoples, which is the epitome of terrorism that considers only how to take over your lands, your religion, and your customs, and whose corruption and arrogance have no limits – distance yourselves from it, in every place it is to be found, because it is a target of ours.” The militia also addressed the Iraqi security forces and its political echelon and urged them not to provide protection for this “Satan,” for their own safety.
The statements described above follow similar statements recently issued by the Awliya Al-Haqq Brigades and other Iran-backed militias in Iraq, while American and Israeli attacks are taking place in Yemen and in Gaza, respectively, and the media is reporting on Israel’s alleged intention to attack targets on Iraqi territory.
