The wave of arrests appears to have been triggered by recent U.S. military strikes targeting the headquarters and warehouses of Iranian militias in Deir-ez-Zor, Syria TV writes.
In recent days, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) militia, along with military intelligence units associated with regime forces, have detained numerous Syrian individuals affiliated with Iranian militias.
According to reports from the North Press website, over 100 individuals were apprehended in the region spanning from Deir-ez-Zor to the al-Ashara area near the city of al-Mayadeen, situated to the east of Deir-ez-Zor.
Citing a military source within the intelligence apparatus, the website indicates that the Syrians associated with Iranian factions were detained on grounds of “security concerns.” The source elaborated that the area is undergoing heightened security measures amid fears of potential information leakage regarding the movements of Iranian militias. Notably, regime forces have deployed mobile patrols in the region, conducting random searches of passersby over the course of several days.
The wave of arrests appears to have been triggered by recent U.S. military strikes targeting the headquarters and warehouses of Iranian militias in Deir-ez-Zor. These strikes were conducted in response to the killing of U.S. soldiers in Jordan.
Tensions escalated further on Sunday as clashes erupted between Iraqi and Lebanese nationals and Syrian individuals who had fled their headquarters, fearing U.S airstrikes targeting Iranian militias in the region. According to the reports, Iraqi and Lebanese members shot at the fleeing Syrians, leading to brief but intense clashes. Among those injured were Haidar Yaqout and Suhaib sl-Ahmad, both from the Palmyra area in eastern Homs.
